Carl Friedrich Voigt (born October 6, 1800 in Berlin , † October 13, 1874 in Trieste ) was a German medalist , engraver , gemstone cutter and die cutter .

Life

Voigt initially worked for various renowned engravers, including the mint founded by Daniel Friedrich Loos in Berlin under Gottfried Bernhard Loos and with Benedetto Pistrucci in London.

From 1829 to 1855 he was the chief engraver and medalist at the Royal Bavarian Mint ( Bavarian Main Mint ) in Munich. There he was a die cutter for numerous coins of the Kingdom of Bavaria (e.g. for the series of Bavarian History Convention thalers initiated by King Ludwig I , the motifs “Coin for the Bavarian-Württemberg Zollverein”, 1830/31, “Trade Agreement between Bavaria, Prussia, Württemberg und Hessen 1829 ", 1831/32," For the conclusion of the Customs Union Treaties 1833 ", 1833/34," Baden joined the German Customs Union ", 1835/36; for the motif for the history thaler" Peace of Frankfurt a. A bronze medal by Voigt from 1841 in the National Portrait Gallery in London shows a portrait of the British Indologist John Borthwick Gilchrist . A bronze portrait medal by the Italian sculptor Pietro Teneranis dates from 1853 .

Voigt had been married to the Rome-born miniature painter M. Teresa Fioroni since 1830 . CF Voigt created a portrait medallion for his wife in 1845: cast bronze, one-sided, 86 mm. Inscription: M. TERESA VOIGT G. (eborene) FIORONI - PAINTER <> head portrait to the left, signed below : C. VOIGT 1845.

King Otto of Greece awarded him the Silver Knight's Cross of the Order of Savior in 1836 .
