Carl Grote (Illustrator)

Carl Grote (born March 29, 1839 in Bründeln ( Peine district ), † June 28, 1907 in Hanover ) was a German journalist , draftsman , illustrator , wood engraver , painter and lithographer .

Trained in Munich and Stuttgart , Grote a. a. in Hanover and illustrated daily journalistic events from town and country.

Grote specialized in bird charts , which were then used by wood , copper and steel engravers as a template for often large-format illustrations such as the Illustrirte Zeitung or Die Gartenlaube . Often the illustrations ( engraved by ... based on a drawing by C. Grote ) were then separated from the magazines and colored in different colors by specialized colorists .
