Karl Gsellhofer
Karl Gsellhofer (also Carl Gselhofer , born October 28, 1779 in Vienna , † May 17, 1858 ibid) was an Austrian painter .
Life
Karl Gsellhofer studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Heinrich Friedrich Füger and subsequently became a chamber painter for Archduke Ludwig of Austria .
As Hubert Maurer's successor , he headed the chair for historical elementary drawing at the Vienna Academy from 1819 to 1851 . Among his students were Josef Lavos and Carl Goenel .
Following Füger's advice, Gsellhofer first dealt with miniature painting , later also devoting himself to history and landscape painting . In aristocratic circles and the bourgeoisie, Gsellhofer was particularly popular as a portrait painter .
