Carl Plessing

Carl Plessing (* 23. February 1861 in Lübeck ; † 3. April 1922 ibid ) was Lübeck State Council.

Life

He was the son of Senator Alphons Plessing, who died in 1904 . After visiting the Katharineum in Lübeck , he studied law at the University of Tübingen and became a member of the Corps Suevia Tübingen in 1883 . After completing his studies, he settled as a lawyer in his hometown. He married Helene, a daughter of Julius Schubring, who had been director of the Katharineum since 1880 .

In 1892 he was elected to the council of the Lübeck City and Land Office , and on January 30, 1901, he became State Secretary in this office . As such, he belonged to a number of state bodies such as the tax authority , the administrative court , the inheritance tax office (as chairman ), the cemetery authority , the committee for trade and insurance, the military commission of the senate , the foundation authority , the disciplinary chamber for Reich civil servants and other authorities.

During the First World War he made a contribution to caring for the Lübeck soldiers . He campaigned for the collection and management of gifts of love to the front . He repeatedly accompanied Mayor Emil Ferdinand Fehling on his visits to the front to the local regiment in the field .

Shortly after the fall of Riga , Mayor Fehling , again accompanied by Government Councilor Plessing, went to the Eastern Front to Warsaw , Brest-Litowsk , Kovel , Białystok , Vilnius , Mitau , Libau (naval port) and Riga . At every stop in the occupied Russian territory, the army command ensured that they were greeted by the children of the Lübeck country. Several days were dedicated to whole troop units that received their replacements exclusively or mainly from the Hanseatic city . In the cities that were the seat of German governorates , army high command or military administrations , one met with the leading persons. In the area of Army Group Linsingen, the commander in chief , as a Lübeck veteran, received the delegation with the Lübeckers in an episcopal palace.

Outside of an office, he became involved in the society for the promotion of charitable activities and was its secretary for several years .

After a short illness he passed away. His funeral, which was attended by the entire official Lübeck, was headed by pastor Wilhelm Jannasch .
