Carl Schaefer (politician)
Carl Schaefer (born September 27, 1887 in Schorndorf ; † August 15, 1970 in Ludwigsburg ) was a German doctor , entrepreneur and politician ( FDP / DVP ).
Life and work
Schaefer studied medicine at the Universities of Tübingen , Kiel , Munich and Heidelberg and graduated with doctorate Dr. med. from. During his studies in 1907 he became a member of the Ghibellinia Tübingen Landsmannschaft . He then worked as a doctor and was chief physician of the surgical department of the Ludwigsburg District Hospital from 1914 to 1918. After his marriage to Anna Barth, in 1919 he took over the management of a Ludwigsburg family business, the GW Barth iron foundry founded in 1890. In 1928 he became its sole owner.
He was President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ludwigsburg, Chairman of the Württemberg-Baden Foundry Association and the Württemberg-Baden Metal Industry Association. He was also President of the Working Group of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Württemberg-Baden.

Schaefer was a member of the Ludwigsburg municipal council before 1933. In 1945, together with Wilhelm Rath, he founded the DVP district association in Ludwigsburg, was again a member of the local council and was also a member of the Ludwigsburg district council . In 1946 he was a member of the Provisional People's Representation for Württemberg-Baden and the Constituent State Assembly of Württemberg-Baden . He was then elected to the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden , to which he belonged until 1952. From 1950 to 1952 he served as Vice President of the State Parliament. After the founding of the "Southwest State" he was from 1952 to 1956 a member of the state constituent assembly and the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg .
