Friedrich Carl Ernst Walter (born November 29, 1789 in Bülow, today part of Schorssow ; † July 14, 1854 in Schwerin ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and court preacher in Schwerin.

Life

Carl Walter was a son of the pastor at the village church Bülow , (Rudolph Friedrich) David Walter. From October 1807 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Rostock and became a member of the Corps Vandalia Rostock . After his exams in 1810, like most theologians of his time, he first had to accept a position as private tutor , first with Anton Christoph von Wickede in Gorschendorf (now part of Malchin ), then with the chamberlain from Vieregge in Wismar. On February 13, 1812 he became a deacon (2nd pastor) at the Nikolaikirche in Wismar . In 1821 he came to the school teacher seminar in Ludwigslust as an inspector and in 1823 became court preacher at the court church . From 1830 he was also consistorial councilor and in 1833 he was appointed chief preacher in Ludwigslust. In 1839 he moved to Schwerin with the grand ducal court. Here he was chief court preacher at the castle church in Schwerin until his death. On Christmas Day 1845 he consecrated the neo-Gothic altar of the Schwerin Cathedral .

He was pastor for three generations of the House of Mecklenburg (-Schwerin) and responsible for its casualies : he confirmed the Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II in 1839 and Duchess Luise of Mecklenburg in 1840 ; buried Grand Duke Paul Friedrich in 1842 , confirmed Duke Wilhelm zu Mecklenburg in 1843 , married Luise and Hugo Fürst zu Windisch-Graetz (1823–1904) in Ludwigslust in 1849 on October 20 and Friedrich Franz and Auguste Reuss zu Köstritz on November 3 ; baptized Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich Franz (III.) in 1851 and Duke Paul Friedrich zu Mecklenburg in 1852 , each in the Golden Hall of Ludwigslust Palace .

Walter was married to Charlotte, b. Dahlmann (* 1793), a daughter of the Wismar Mayor and Syndic Johann Christian Ehrenfried Dahlmann (1739–1805), and was thus brother-in-law of Friedrich Christoph Dahlmann . Through his daughter Agnes he was the father-in-law of Theodor Kliefoth .
