Carl Frederik Axel Bror von Blixen-Finecke (born August 15, 1822 at Dallund Castle on Funen , Denmark ; † January 6, 1873 in Baden-Baden ) was a Danish-Swedish baron, landowner and politician of the 19th century.

Life

Carl von Blixen-Finecke was born as the son of the Danish-Swedish chamberlain and entails owner Conrad Frederik von Blixen-Finecke at Dallund Castle in the north-western part of the island of Funen. This estate had belonged to the family since 1801. They also owned the Fideikommiss Näsbyholm in Skåne and the Klein Zastrow and Sestelin estates in Western Pomerania . At the time of his birth, the latter was held by grandfather Carl Philipp von Blixen-Finecke , who had acquired Dallund in 1801.

Carl Frederik von Blixen-Finecke was orphaned in 1829 through the early death of both parents and grew up under strict guardianship. He inherited the estates Dallund on Fyn in Denmark and Näsbyholm in Skåne from his father. In 1844, after the death of his uncle Carl Philipp Reinhold von Blixen-Finecke, he also inherited his goods Klein Zastrow and Sestelin in Western Pomerania, which he sold to the Greifswald businessman Johann Philipp Hermann Weißenborn in 1848. From 1840 he studied law at the University of Göttingen , where he became a member of the Corps Hannovera . Blixen married Augusta von Hessen-Kassel, a sister of the later Danish Queen Louise of Hessen, and was thus with King Christian IX. related by marriage. In the ministry under Carl Eduard Rotwitt , von Blixen-Finecke was Danish Foreign Minister and Minister for Schleswig .

In 1852 Carl Frederik was admitted to the Freemasons ' League . His box was the Saint Christopher in Kristianstad .

He was the father of Frederik von Blixen-Finecke and the grandfather of the big game hunter Bror von Blixen-Finecke , the husband of the writer Karen Blixen .

Blixen-Finecke was buried in Skamby Kirkegård cemetery in Søndersø on Funen.
