Carl von Dapper
Carl Franz Dapper , from 1913 from Dapper-Saalfels (born November 16, 1863 in Kerpen , † June 29, 1937 in Bad Kissingen ) was a German internist , balneologist and spa doctor.
Life
He came from a Rhineland family and was the son of the doctor Dr. med. Michael Dapper (* 1835) in Kerpen.
Dapper was a royal Bavarian court advisor , a grand ducal Oldenburg secret medical advisor and a royal Prussian professor.
He enjoyed through its publications, but especially through his work as a practicing spa physician in the biggest at that time with five connected by an arcade houses sanatorium complex of the spa town of Bad Kissingen, which he did in the years 1894 to 1904 by Kissinger architect Carl spasm had built , international fame. His patients and guests there included representatives of the European nobility, business leaders, politicians and the military such as B. Prince Erich von Thurn und Taxis (1876–1952) and his younger brother Alexander (1881–1937) of Lautschin Castle ( Bohemia ), Grand Duke Michael of Russia , Princess Johanna von Bismarck , Grand Duke Friedrich August II of Oldenburg and his daughter Duchess Sophie Charlotte von Oldenburg , Empress Auguste Viktoria , the banker Robert Pferdmenges , publisher Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus (the Younger) and several times the composer Richard Strauss . The head of the Foreign Office, Alfred von Kiderlen-Waechter , received the French ambassador Jules Cambon for a political discussion on behalf of Chancellor Theobald von Bethmann Hollweg during the Second Morocco Crisis (1911) . Nazi Reich Minister Rudolf Hess also stayed in Dapper for a cure at least in 1936.
During the First World War , his sanatorium served as a military hospital for officers. After the Great Depression Dapper lost his sanatorium because of falling visitor numbers to the bank. Today, the only element of the spacious complex, which had to change hands several times, is the main building from 1894 as the privately owned hotel "Residence von Dapper".
Dapper was raised to the Bavarian nobility on February 13, 1913 with matriculation on March 10, 1913 in Munich with the addition of "von Dapper-Saalfels".
Carl von Dapper was buried in Bad Kissingen on July 1, 1937. His wife and daughter had died before him.
At the Bavarian Academy of Sciences there was the “Dapper-Saalfels-Foundation” to promote scientific work and ventures in the whole field of natural sciences. In Bad Kissingen, Dapperstrasse was named after him.
He was a member of the Corps Rhenania Freiburg (1884) and Guestphalia Bonn (1888).
