Carlo Geronimo Garove or Garovi (* 1630 in Bissone , † 1697 in Drottningholm Palace near Stockholm ) was a Swiss-Italian plasterer of the early Baroque .

Life

He was the son of Simone Garove, plasterer from Bissone, his older brother was Giovanni Battista Garove . This brought him to Sweden in 1667 . He completed stucco reliefs in the burial chapel for Field Marshal Lars Kagg (died 1661) next to the Floda kyrka (Södermanland) south of Stockholm. From 1667 he worked in Drottningholm Palace near Stockholm, which was rebuilt in the baroque style after a fire in 1662–1681 (he stuccoed the ceiling in the stencil).

In 1667–1673 Imperial Chancellor Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie had the Varnhem monastery church near Gothenburg redesigned by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder , where Garove created the stucco decorations. He also decorated Finspång Castle , built between 1668 and 1685, east of Stockholm. He took on further work in the castles of Mälsåker , Karlberg (royal pleasure palace until 1792, since then cadet school), Ericsberg and Nynäs .
