Carlo Livizzani

Carlo Livizzani (born November 1, 1722 in Modena , † July 1, 1802 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the fourth of five children of the nobles Ippolito Livizzani and Teresa Forni, his surname is also given as Livizzani Forni . His uncle was Cardinal Giuseppe Livizzani , who also brought him to Rome for education, where the young Carlo Livizzani attended the Collegio Nazareno . At the age of eighteen he preached on April 4, 1741 in the papal house chapel in the presence of Pope Benedict XIV on the Resurrection , and gave another sermon on Ascension Day before the same Pope on May 14, 1746. The Pope appointed him canon of the Basilica Liberiana and as an honorary papal chamberlain and commissioned him in 1747 to deliver the red biretta to the newly appointed Cardinal José Manuel da Câmara . On January 11, 1753 Carlo Livizzani was trainee lawyer of the Curia and relator of the Congregation for the Administration of Goods, he was also a member of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature and from 1766 cleric of the Apostolic Chamber . In 1778 he became President of Urbino and Apostolic Protonotary .

On February 14, 1785, Pope Pius VI created Carlo Livizzani as cardinal deacon . He received the red hat on February 17th and the titular diaconia Sant'Adriano on April 11th of the same year. As a cardinal he belonged to numerous congregations of the Curia.

Carlo Livizzani was ordained deacon on May 14, 1785 . He opted on February 21, 1794 for the cardinal class of cardinal priests and took the titular church of San Silvestro in Capite to complete. On April 13th of the same year he was ordained priest by Cardinal Luigi Valenti Gonzaga in his house chapel. When the French occupied Rome in 1798, Carlo Livizzani was forced to return to Modena, where he lived until the death of Pope Pius VI. 1799 stayed. Then he went to the conclave , which took place in Venice and from which Pius VII emerged as Pope. Then he welcomed the newly elected Pope to Rome.

Carlo Livizzani died on July 1, 1802 of a lung infection after the last sacraments and the apostolic blessing was received. He was buried in his titular church, San Silvestro in Capite , after Pope Pius VII, who attended the funeral services, personally pronounced the last absolution . The Requiem led Cardinal Giuseppe Firrao .
