Carlo Montanaro
Carlo Montanaro (born in Cecina ) is an Italian violinist and conductor . He concentrates on Italian operas from bel canto to verismo and also conducts selected works from the French repertoire.
life and work
Montanaro completed his studies as a violinist at the Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini in Florence and began his musical career in the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 1991. He was discovered and promoted by Zubin Mehta , came to the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna , where he studied conducting for three years with Leopold Hager , Ervin Acél and Takuo Yuasa .
Since 2001 he has appeared at numerous opera houses around the world:
- In Italy he has conducted at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma , at the Teatro Cilea in Reggio Calabria, at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, at the Festival Verdi in Parma, in the Arena di Verona and at the Sferisterio Opera Festival in Maccerata, in Palermo, Milan and Florence .
- In Germany he took on engagements at the Deutsche Oper Berlin , at the Württemberg State Opera in Stuttgart and at the Semperoper in Dresden, in Frankfurt am Main and in Hamburg.
- Further engagements took him to St. Petersburg, Bilbao, Athens and Tel Aviv, Colorado, Denver and Seattle, to Montreal, to the New National Theater in Tokyo and to the Handa Opera Festival in Sydney.
From 2011 to 2014 he worked as music director at Teatr Wielki in Warsaw.
He also takes on regular concert engagements, again focusing on works from the Italian repertoire, such as Verdi's Messa da Requiem . He has made guest appearances at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Herkulessaal in Munich and the Graz Music Association .
