Carmen Stadelhofer

Carmen Stadelhofer (born July 9, 1947 in Frankfurt / Main ) is a German educator and scientist . Until the end of 2012 she was managing director of the ZAWiW at the University of Ulm . Stadelhofer received the Federal Cross of Merit in September 2009, the citizen's medal of the city ​​of Ulm in July 2013 for her work in the field of scientific further education for older people and in September 2015 the medal of the University of Ulm. She has also published numerous scientific publications.

Life

Carmen Stadelhofer completed a degree in German , Romance studies and pedagogy for the higher teaching post in Mannheim and Freiburg with several study and work stays in France and Italy . After completing her studies, she initially worked as an academic at the University of Mannheim , followed by a legal clerkship in 1978, and from 1979 to 1984 she was a teacher at the Mannheim-Herzogenried comprehensive school . From 1984 to 2012 she worked in various fields at the University of Ulm . From 1984 to 1994 Stadelhofer was jointly responsible for the training of student teachers at the Department of Education at Ulm University. From 1987 to 1994 she was the scientific director of the model project "Women's Academy" at the Ulm Adult Education Center . From March 1994 to December 2012 she was the head of the office of the Center for General Scientific Further Education (ZAWiW) at Ulm University . Even after her retirement, she is active on a voluntary basis in the field of senior education and, as chairwoman of the “Institute ILEU eV”, coordinates the European educational network “Danube-Networkers for Europe eV” (DANET) and various European projects.

Research activity

Project management of model projects at regional, national and international level; scientific support in terms of action research. Research focuses on the development of innovative methods in general  adult education , u. a. in the areas of women's education and people in their third age, as well as the preparation of older people for new tasks and fields of activity. Development and meaningful use of new media in the field of adult education, promotion of self-directed and research-based learning; Implementation of learning projects with the support of the new media (e.g. creation of social internet-based networks) on a national and international level with the active involvement of those involved. The focus of her research is on emphasizing the personal performance of older adults and placing their competence and productivity in the center. In the foreground, as methodological and didactic concepts are activating forms of learning (virtual learning, research-based learning, self-directed learning).

European cooperation and other networks

In 1995 she initiated the informal Europe-wide network "Learning in Later Life (LiLL)" and headed its coordination office at ZAWiW. In 2008 she initiated the informal Europe-wide network "Danube-Networkers" for Seniors' Education, Social Participation and Intergenerational Dialogue. Stadelhofer was Vice-President and member of the Administrative Advisory Board of the “Association Internationale des Universités du Troisième Age (AIUTA)” (until 2014) and from 1998 to 2013 a board member of the Federal Working Group on Scientific Further Education for Older People (BAG WiWA) in Germany; From 2002 to 2016 she was chairman of the nationwide association "Virtual and Real Learning and Competence Network of Older Adults eV" (ViLE). Since 2002 she has also been chairwoman of the association "Institute for virtual and real learning in adult education at the University of Ulm (ILEU) eV" and since 2014 chairwoman of the European educational network "Danube Networkers for Europe eV" (DANET).
