background

Almost a year after the first recordings with the Release Music Orchestra for Studio EUROPA , Carsten Bohn decided again to record soundtracks for Heikedine Körting and Andreas Beurmann . This time, however, he composed the melodies and resorted to bandstand members with whom he had already worked on Humor Rumor and Mother Goose Shoes . The total of 31 titles were recorded on March 17, 1979 in the Rüssl Studios in Hamburg . The next day, however, Bohn produced a few additional synthesizer overdubs and made several mixes of some of the recordings.

For some radio plays, Bohn received text books with music instructions such as “exciting”, “adventurous” or the like. He also often composed melodies for the introduction, changing sides and the end of a radio play. So it happens that many titles consist of three parts - for example Perry Rhodan , Frankenstein & Dracula or emergency landing in Bali. However, the music was also very often used in the middle of a radio play when changing scenes and was never limited to a series or a radio play. In general, the music in the radio plays very often appears detached from its associated titles.

From Frankenstein & Dracula, part 2 , Bohn produced various mixes with various overdubs, which were also actively used in the horror series. The band also recorded some tracks at different speeds.

For the series Die daring Vier , which was originally to be called Die Arnoldskinder , he composed music for three radio plays, each with three parts. This is how the well-known whistle theme came about, which became more popular as the intro of some three - ??? - radio plays . Bohn also composed music for the Perry Rhodan series - although it was never used there. Perry Rhodan, Part 1 also served as the intro for several three - ??? - radio plays.

Brand new oldies

Since Carsten Bohn was not allowed to publish the original recordings of the radio play music sessions for EUROPA due to the legal dispute with Sony Music Germany , he decided to re-record the music with the band Carsten Bohn's Bandstand . In doing so, he relied on bandstand members such as Frank Fischer and George Kochbeck , who had been involved in the original recordings, as well as musicians whom Bohn had come to appreciate in the meantime. So Carsten Bohn's Bandstand was reactivated and the Brandnew Oldies series was born.
