Carvalhal da Azoia (occasionally Carvalhal de Azoia ) is a village in the municipality of Samuel , in which a tenth of the municipality's population live with just over 100 inhabitants.

The village is located on an elevated landscape, surrounded by an agricultural landscape and foliage, conifer and eucalyptus trees and with a view of the distant landscape elevations of the foothills of the Iberian Divide Mountains , namely the Serras de Sicó , Serra da Lousã , Serra de Castros and Serra do Buçaco .
With no direct connection to thoroughfares and no significant industrial or commercial activities, the place is characterized by peace and serenity, in addition to the views of the surroundings and the fresh air supply due to the elevated location.
Culture and sights
In the village there is the village church Capela do Carvalhal da Azoia and the miniature chapel Capela da Nossa Sr.ª dos Aflitos . After renovations, a café-snack bar was opened in the premises of the former olive oil press in the village in the 1990s, while preserving the historical equipment. The company was closed in the mid-2000s.
In the 1990s the Casa do Povo was built as a local administration and event house. Since then, the local cultural association Associação Recreativa e Musical 4 de Abril do Carvalhal da Azoia ("Leisure and Music Association April 4th of Carvalhal de Azoia") has its domicile in the unadorned building . Its main activity is the Tuna Musical 4 de Abril band, founded on April 4, 1934, and its music school.
At the headquarters of the Tuna Musical 4 de Abril , the local rock band Balbúrdia also records their songs, with three releases now. However, the group mostly only appears regionally. For the 20th anniversary of the band, she played at the São Mateus city festival in the district town of Soure, where they performed with Fischer-Z on September 17, 2016 . They help organize the rock festival Cercal Rock in neighboring Cercal and have performed here several times themselves, including a. 2016 together with Mata-Ratos and 2017 together with Peste & Sida .
The primary school in the village is the only other public building in town. The school has since been closed due to a lack of students.
Every year on December 8th the place celebrates the festival of Nossa Sr.ª da Conceição , and in August the village festival Festa do Carvalhal da Azoia takes place.
Economy and Transport
The village has connections to county roads via the three connecting roads to Verride , Coles and Cercal . The nearest train station is in Verride. There is a bus connection on the local Transdev line to the district town of Soure on weekdays, twice a day, with a stop at the Curado village shop.
In the village there is an association of hunters with a shooting range on the private club premises. In addition, there is a small substation and a sewage treatment plant in front of the village. Apart from a smaller construction company with building materials trade and a small car repair shop, there are no notable companies in the village. Practiced as a sideline, agriculture still plays an important role in the local economy.
The only shop in town is the Curado café and village shop . Every day a baker, a fishmonger and a fruit and vegetable dealer drive to the village with vending trucks.
The residents live mainly from activities in the surrounding areas of the districts of Soure , Montemor-o-Velho and Figueira da Foz , the majority of the village lives on old-age pensions.
