James Andrew Jones (born October 14, 1980 in Miami , Florida ) is a retired American basketball player who played in the NBA from 2003 to 2017 . He was mainly known for his very good distance throw. At the side of LeBron James , he won three NBA championships with the Miami Heat (2012, 2013) and Cleveland Cavaliers (2016).
Jones currently holds the senior position of General Manager at Phoenix Suns .
Player career
Indiana Pacers
Jones was selected 49th in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers , where he stayed for two years. In his debut season he played a total of only 26 minutes, but in his second season he played almost every game and got 4.9 points per game in 17.7 minutes per game.
Phoenix Suns
Jones moved to the Phoenix Suns for a second round pick , where he also played for two years. His first year in Phoenix was successful for him; he achieved career highs of 9.3 points per game with a 3-point throw rate of 38.9%. In the following season Jones eased up a bit and averaged 6.4 points per game in about 18 minutes.
Portland Trail Blazers
In June 2007 Jones was transferred to Portland for Rudy Fernández and additional financial contributions , where he was active for one season. He put on an average of 8.0 points per game in his only season with the Blazers.
Miami Heat
In the NBA playoffs 2008/09 he played an average of 33.6 minutes per game and achieved an average of 9.6 points per game. In the seasons 2011/12 and 2012/13 he was able to win the NBA championship with the team.
Cleveland Cavaliers
In the summer of 2014, he signed a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers to win more titles alongside LeBron James . This project succeeded and Jones won his third championship with the Cavs in the 2015/16 season .
End of career
After the 2016/17 season , he was introduced by the Phoenix Suns as part of management, ending his active career after 14 years in the NBA.
Management career
On July 19, 2017, Jones was initially introduced as Vice President of Basketball Operations at the Phoenix Suns. On October 8, 2018, he was appointed interim manager of the Suns. In season 2018/19 he organized two trades for the team in which he Trevor Ariza against Kelly Oubre Jr. , and Ryan Anderson against Tyler Johnson exchanged
On April 11, 2019, Jones officially became the Suns' new general manager.
