Casais is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Lousada . 1409 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).
history
The current place was probably created in the course of the repopulation after the Reconquista . In the royal surveys of 1258 , Casais was already run as a separate municipality.
Culture and sights
The single-nave, Mannerist - Baroque parish church Igreja Paroquial de Casais ( also Igreja de São Paio after its patron saint ) dates from the 17th century.
Other monuments in the municipality are two chapels and the Quinta da Tapada estate , with mansions and a chapel.
