Catherine Debrunner (born April 11, 1995 in Mettendorf ) is a Swiss wheelchair athlete . She is active in the T53 starting class over short and medium distances .

Life

Catherine Debrunner was born in 1995 in Mettendorf , a local church in Hüttlingen . Due to a tumor on her spinal acid, she has been in a wheelchair since she was born. At the age of seven she attended a sports camp in Nottwil , where she met her trainer Paul Odermatt , who is still training her today. He invited her to a training session in Frauenfeld , where she could use a racing wheelchair for the first time.

In 2006 she took part in her first Junior World Championships in Ireland . In 2008 those in New York City, where she won five gold medals and was recognized as the athlete with the greatest potential. In addition to sport, she attended the teachers' seminar at the pedagogical high school in Kreuzlingen from 2011 .

In 2013 she took part in her first World Athletics Championships for the disabled in Lyon , where she finished fifth three times.

In 2015 she passed her high school diploma and qualified for the 2015 World Athletics Championships for the disabled in Doha . There she won the silver medal over 200 meters. Fourth place over 100 and 1500 meters.

For the 2016 Summer Paralympics , she completely focused on the sport and specialized in the middle distance . At the games, she moved into the final over the 400-meter course. But not over 800 and 1500 meters.

In 2018 Debrunner moved to Geuensee in Central Switzerland to be closer to the training center in Nottwil . In addition to training, she now teaches at the primary school in Waltenschwil .

At the 2019 World Championships in Athletics for the Disabled , she won gold over 400 meters and silver over 800 meters.
