Caxata (also: Cacsata ) is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Caxata is the central location of the canton of Caxata in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Yaco in the province of Loayza . The village of Caxata is located in the Serranía de Sicasica at an altitude of 4408 m on one of the tributaries to the Río Yaco , which later flows into the Río Luribay . Lead , zinc and copper ores are mined near Caxata, and Mottramite deposits are also found here .

Caxata lies between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands in the east. The region has a typical daytime climate in which the mean temperature differences between day and night are greater than the temperature differences between the seasons.
The mean average temperature of the region is just under 7 ° C and fluctuates between 3 ° C in June / July and 9 ° C in November / December (see Caxata climate diagram). Annual precipitation is 500 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to July and monthly precipitation of more than 100 mm in January and February.
Infrastructure
Caxata is 197 kilometers by road southeast of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.
From La Paz, the asphalt leads highway Ruta 2 west to El Alto , from there 129 kilometers to the south, the Ruta 1 on Sica Sica after Konani , 80 kilometers off Oruro . From there an unpaved country road leads north-east to Quime and after 55 kilometers, halfway there, passes the village of Caxata .

Due to the population structure that has evolved over time, the Aymara population is predominant in Caxata , while 97.5 percent of the population in the Municipio Yaco speak the Aymara language .
