Cedros is a town and municipality on the Azores island of Faial . The well-known Miradouro da Ribeira Funda viewpoint is located in the municipality.

The place name is derived from the Portuguese name for the juniper that is widespread here .

history

In the center of Cedros, called Praça , stands the parish church Igreja de Santa Bárbara with a Manueline portal, which was first mentioned in 1594 and whose nave fell victim to a fire in 1971. Reconstruction was completed in 1977, and the church was renovated after being damaged by the 1998 earthquake.
