Cees S. Roselaar

Cornelis Simon Roselaar (born May 16, 1947 in Hoorn ), often known as Cees S. Roselaar or Kees Roselaar , is a Dutch ornithologist .

Life

Roselaar studied biology at the Universiteit van Amsterdam from 1966 to 1974 , where he received his doctorate in 1986 . From 1971 to 2011 he was information officer and research assistant in the bird department at the Zoological Museum Amsterdam (ZMA) and from 1970 to 2011 he was collection manager at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden .

In 1992 he became the identification officer for bird remains at the Koninklijke Luchtmacht . He is a member of the Commissie Dwaalgasten Nederlandse Avifauna (CDNA), where he was active in the rarities committee from 1975 to 1983 and was elected secretary in 1990.

Roselaar's research focuses on bird taxonomy, in particular the geographical variation of Palearctic birds. He was a bird ringer in the Castricum ornithological station and he participated in sea bird counts on the dike Hondsbossche Zeewering .

For the nine-volume encyclopedia The Birds of the Western Palearctic (BWP) by Stanley Cramp (from 1977 to 1985) and by Christopher M. Perrins (from 1988 to 1994) he wrote sections on families , nomenclature , subspecies , plumage , feathered spots, moulting , Size and weight information, structure and geographical variation.

Roselaar is the author of Songbirds of Turkey (1995) and co-author of The Megapodes: Megapodiidae (Bird Families of the World, Volume 3) with Darryl N. Jones and Rene WRJ Dekker (1995), The Birds of Israel with Hadoram Shirihai (1996), Geographical Variation in Waders with Meinte Engelmoer (1998), Atlas of Birds of Iran with Mohammad Kaboli, Mansour Aliabadian, Mohammad Tohidifar, Alireza Hashemi and Seyed Babak Musavi (2016) and Birds of Iran: Annotated Checklist of the Species and subspecies with Abolghasem Khaleghizadeh, Derek A. Scott, Mohammad Tohidifar, Jiří Mlíkovský , Michael Blair and Pavel Kvartalnov (2017). He has also contributed to the magazines Dutch Birding , Ardea , Beaufortia , Ringing & Migration , Wader Study Group Bulletin and Watervogels and he is involved in the online project Fauna Europaea . He is a member of the Dutch Birding Association, the Ornithological Society of the Middle East (OSME) and the Nederlandse Ornithologische Unie .

Roselaar described the 1992 Sillemgimpel ( Carpodacus Sillemi ), 1993 subspecies Corvus rhipidurus stanleyi the bristle ravens and the subspecies Chloris chloris voousi the Green Finch , 1994 subspecies Talegalla fuscirostris aruensis and Talegalla fuscirostris meyeri the Manx-Busch chicken , the subspecies Talegalla cuvieri granti of Rotschnabel- Busch chicken , the subspecies Megapodius cumingii talautensis the Philippines Großfußhuhns and the subspecies Acrocephalus stentoreus levantinus of Stentorrohrsängers and 2016 Waldrötel types Stiphrornis dahomeyensis , Stiphrornis inexpectatus and Stiphrornis rudderi .

Dedication names

In 1990, the Russian ornithologist Pawel Tomkowitsch named the subspecies Calidris canutus roselaari of Knutts , which occurs on Wrangel Island and in northwest Alaska , in honor of Roselaar.
