The Celtic Sea is an area of ​​the Atlantic between the south coast of Ireland , the south-west coast of Wales and the north coasts of Devon and Cornwall . It extends over 645 km in a north-south direction (46.48 ° N to 52.28 ° N) and over 560 km from east to west (11.5 ° W to 4.192 ° W). The area covers around 300,000 km².

The extreme west of Ireland is considered the border in the west. The approximate southern boundary is located at the height of Brittany , following the continental shelf , the area of the Celtic Sea also Celtic shelf ( Celtic Shelf is called). On the coast of Brittany, the Celtic Sea meets the Biscay at the Pointe de Penmarch , which is also the southern boundary of the Baie d'Audierne .

The Bristol Channel joins in the northeast, the English Channel in the east , and the Bay of Biscay in the south and southeast. The Iroise in the southeast is part of the Celtic Sea.

The islands of the Celtic Sea include the Scilly Isles and the Breton islands of Ouessant and Île de Sein . Lundy Island is on the border of the Bristol Channel.

The St. George's Canal runs between the Celtic and Irish Seas .
