The Ligue 1 (officially: Ligue 1 Airtel , formerly Ligue 1 Orange , also Championnat National de Première Division or Championnat D1 ) is the top division of the national soccer association of Niger , the Fédération Nigérienne de Football .

history

The Ligue 1 was launched in 1966 by the Association, however already in the 1950 championships played -Jahren, all of Renaissance Elmina could be won. The hosting mode of the top division changed from time to time, some championships were canceled completely. From the 2000s onwards , the clubs played in two groups, with the best of the group moving into the Super League to determine the Nigerien football champions. The second league level consists of regional championships, the winners of these competed in play-off games to determine the two promoted to the top class. In protest against the relegation regulation, the clubs from the Niamey region withdrew from the leagues in 2001 and played their own soccer competition with the sponsor's coupe . The 2002 football championship was canceled completely due to financial problems , and the winner of the regional round from Niamey, AS Niamey , was announced to take part in the 2003 CAF Champions League . In 2008, the highest number of participating teams was reached with 20 clubs divided into five groups. For the 2010/11 season there was again some restructuring. The league was renamed Ligue 1 Orange and played on a single track with 16 clubs (14 teams from 2011/12). The seasons start in December and last until July of the following year. For the 2017/18 season, the league was again increased to 16 clubs.
