Chang Yongxiang ( Chinese  常 永祥 , Pinyin Cháng Yǒngxiáng ; born September 16, 1983 in Handan , Hebei ) is a Chinese wrestler . He won at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing a silver medal in Greco-Roman style in the welterweight division .

Career

Chang Yongxiang comes from Taiyuan and belongs to the Shanxi Wrestling Club . He is 1.78 m tall and typically weighs around 80 kg. For the big international competitions he trains regularly in the welterweight class, whose weight limit is 74 kg. Chang Yongxian, who has been a member of the Chinese national team of Greco-Roman wrestlers since 2005 , was specifically promoted , like his other Chinese wrestling comrades in the national team, with a view to holding the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . A promotion that paid off for him, because since his first start at an international championship in 2005, he steadily increased until he won the silver medal in Beijing.

At the Asian Championships in Wuhan in 2005, his first start in an international championship, he finished 7th in the welterweight division. Even a year later, at the 2006 World Cup in Guangzhou / China, he still had to learn the hard way, because he lost his first fight there against the Swede Mohamed Reza Babulfath , with which he was eliminated and ended up in 26th place.

He made clear progress at the 2007 Asian Cup in Bishkek / Kyrgyzstan . He reached there behind Daniar Kobonow from Kyrgyzstan, who had already won in this weight class in 2005, and Ässet Ädilow from Kazakhstan in 3rd place. At the 2007 World Cup in Baku he had no luck, however, because he lost his first fight against ex-world champion Manuchar K Wirkwelia from Georgia on points (1: 3 rounds, 2: 5 technical points). Since K Wirkwelia lost to the German Konstantin Schneider in the next round and was eliminated, Chang only finished 36th.

In 2008 Chan Yongxiang celebrated his first big victory, because he was Asian welterweight champion in Jeju / South Korea in front of the defending champion Daniar Kobonow and Jung Tae-Kyun from South Korea. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , he showed himself in excellent form and defeated the 2007 world champion Jawor Janakiew from Bulgaria on points in his first fight , then he won over Sixto Barrera from Peru and Oleg Michailowitsch from Belarus . He was in the final, in which Manuchar K Wirkwelia faced him. On that day, K Wirkwelia proved to be too strong for Chang and won this fight. Chang Yongyiang won the silver medal, which was a great success for him.
