In 1818 he entered the École polytechnique , which he successfully left again in 1820. He chose artillery as a branch of service , and was then transferred to the artillery and engineer school in Metz .

After being promoted to Sous-lieutenant d'artillerie on February 19, 1823, he served in the "4e Régiment d'artillerie" (4th artillery regiment) until he was appointed his aide-de-camp in 1924 by Général Digeon and in 1825 as a lieutenant was promoted.

Charles Eblé took part in the first campaign to conquer Algeria and was promoted to captain here in 1830 . 1830 .

Charles Eblé was promoted to Général de brigade in October 1854 and was in command of the "École polytechnique" from 1854 to 1860.

One of his tasks was to ensure the political reliability of the students. On December 27, 1855, Général Eblé marched in a parade in front of Napoleon III. at the head of his school formation when he received the traditional reputation of «Vive l'Empereur!» (Long live the emperor), but only his adjutant joined in. The school's four battalions marched “dans un silence glacial” (in icy silence). The school was then threatened with liquidation, but its staff was no longer involved in parades . In the face of this lack of discipline on the part of the students, Général Eblé threatened to reduce the workforce through a lottery procedure and gave those affected ten minutes to think about it. The students then declared to obey.

In 1859 he was appointed inspector of the "Prytanée national militaire" (military school) and in 1860 promoted to Général de division. Eblé was a member of the "Comité de l'artillerie" (Artillery Committee) and from 1862 to 1864 "Inspecteur général de l'artillerie" (Inspector General of the Artillery).

On November 22, 1864 he was appointed "Grand officier de la Légion d'honneur", Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor , and on December 9, 1864 he was transferred to the reserve.

For his services he was elevated to the rank of count on April 17, 1867 by imperial decree . The confirmation was given by "Lettres patentes" on May 8, 1867.
