Chastel-sur-Murat ( Occitan : Chastel) is a former French commune with the last 122 inhabitants (1 January 2013) in the department of Cantal in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belonged to the arrondissement of Saint-Flour . Chastel-sur-Murat is part of the municipality of Murat .
The municipality of Chastel-sur-Murat was incorporated into Murat on January 1, 2017.

Chastel-sur-Murat is located around 21 kilometers northwest of the small town of Saint-Flour in the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park . It belongs to the Monts du Cantal mountains . The main bodies of water are the Foufouilloux , La Chevade , La Tioule and Le Bournantel streams and a pond in the Brujaleine moorland. The most important traffic connection is the national route 122 , which runs past in the south . The nearest train station is in Murat.
In addition to the village of Chastel-sur-Murat, the municipality also included Brugiroux, Brujaleine, Entremont, La Chevade, La Denterie, Le Moulin de Brujaleine, L'Haut-Mur and Le Lapsou.
