Chavannes-sur-Suran is a village and a former French commune of 670 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Ain in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse and the Canton of Nantua .
With effect from January 1, 2017, the former municipalities of Chavannes-sur-Suran and Germagnat were merged to form a nouvelle commune called Nivigne et Suran and have the status of a déléguée commune in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Chavannes-sur-Suran.
