The Taluk Chengalpattu ( Tamil : செங்கல்பட்டு வட்டம் ; formerly Chingleput ) is a Taluk (sub-district) of the Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city of Chengalpattu .

geography

The Taluk Chengalpattu is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal . It borders the taluks Tirukalukundram in the south, Uthiramerur in the west, Kanchipuram and Sriperumbudur in the northwest and Tambaram and Sholinganallur in the north. In the southwest, the Palar River borders the Taluk Chengalpattu.

The Taluk Chengalpattu is congruent with the Kattankolathur and Thiruporur blocks. Its area is 772.8 square kilometers.

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Chengalpattu has 571,254 inhabitants. Of these, 53.9 percent are classified as urban and 46.1 percent as rural. The population density is 739 inhabitants per square kilometer.
