Chibia is a small town and county in Angola . Until 1975 the place was called Vila João de Almeida .

history

In keeping with the imperialist zeitgeist of the era, Portugal extended direct control over its old colonies to the interior of Angola towards the end of the 19th century . In the course of this military and administrative conquest, the locality "São Pedro da Chibia" was founded by the Portuguese on September 16, 1885 . Also Buren settled here.

On October 30, 1927, the place was raised to a small town ( Vila ) and has since been the seat of its own district. It was renamed "Vila de João de Almeida" after João de Almeida , a Portuguese nobleman and royal confidante of the late 15th and early 16th centuries.

After Angola's independence in 1975, the place dropped its Portuguese place name and took its current name.
