Chipindo is a village in Angola .

Administration and residents

Chipindo is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Huíla . 70,936 people live here on an area of 3898 km² (2008 estimate).

The information on the number of inhabitants is different. In the final phase of the Angolan civil war in 2002, Chipindo had 10,000 inhabitants, according to Doctors Without Borders , after 4000 (mostly children) had starved to death as a result of the war-related famine . Other sources report that Chipindo's population rose to 61,000 in 2004 after some 21,000 internally displaced persons returned. The census planned for 2014 should now ensure secure data.

The district consists of two communities (Comunas):

economy

Until about the outbreak of the Angolan civil war (1975-2002) gold was mined in Chipindo. In 2008, the completion of the investigation was announced, after which gold will be won again in the Bambi community.

As part of the state programs to combat poverty, a number of repairs were carried out in Chipindo and new buildings were built. These include an urban market hall in the district town and schools and teachers' apartments in district communities. The school lunch program has also been expanded. However, the Francisco Ventura county councilor stated that one of the county's still many problems was that there was no bank counter here.
