Chidi Anthony Okezie (born August 8, 1993 in Philadelphia ) is a Nigerian athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run and competed for the United States until 2015 .
Athletic career
Chidi Okezie gained his first international experience in 2012 at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where he won the gold medal in the US 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 03.99 minutes. After changing nations in 2015, he competed for Nigeria at the 2016 World Indoor Championships in Portland . In the individual competition over 400 meters he was eliminated with 47.05 s in the first round and with the Nigerian relay he finished fifth in 3: 08.55 minutes. He then won the bronze medal behind the Botswans Baboloki Thebe and Karabo Sibanda at the African Championships in Durban in 45.76 s . Two years later he reached the semifinals over 400 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , in which he was eliminated with 48.53 s. He then took part for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and was eliminated there with 47.33 s in the semifinals. In addition, he was disqualified with the relay in the run-up due to a track violation. In August he won the bronze medal over 400 meters behind the counter and the South African Thapelo Phora again at the African Championships in Asaba in 44.65 s . He also secured the bronze medal behind Kenya and South Africa with the relay in 3: 04.88 min.
In 2019, Okezie took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time and won the bronze medal over 400 meters behind the Botswanian Leungo Scotch and the South African Phora in 45.61 seconds .
In 2015, Okezie became the Nigerian champion in the 400-meter run. In 2015 he completed a master’s degree in sports administration at Hampton University .
