Chilli (actually Rozonda Ocelean Thomas ; born February 27, 1971 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American singer and actress . She gained fame as a member of the R&B trio TLC .

Life

Thomas was born in Atlanta, Georgia to an Arab and an Afro-American mother. Her birth father left the two of them before they were born. During her school days, she was often confronted with racism and had many fights with classmates. After graduating from high school, she initially wanted to become a fashion designer. A few detours, however, led to a job as a dancer, before she was discovered a little later by her future manager Pebbles and in 1991, together with Tionne Watkins and Lisa Lopes, she was signed as TLC . Before the signing of the contract, she replaced the singer Crystal Jones, who was actually planned as the third TLC member.

In 1995, at the age of 25, she met her birth father on the US talk show Sally . Two years later she gave birth to her son Tron, whose father is her boyfriend at the time and TLC producer Dallas Austin . She also modeled for Tommy Hilfiger and founded her own publishing company, T-Ron Music . As an actress, she had minor supporting roles in films and series such as Snow Free and The Wild Seventies . In 2001 she got together with R&B singer Usher , but separated from him three years later due to the great age difference.

Until 2008 Chilli worked on her solo album, the release of which was originally planned for mid-2007 via Akon's sub-label Konvikt Records. Missy Elliott , Polow da Don , Dallas Austin and rapper Akon are responsible for the production of the record .
