Career as a player
society
In his youth, Choi Soon-ho played on the soccer team at Kwangwoon University . In 1983 he was signed by the Pohang Steelers (then still Pohang POSCO Atoms ). The club was included in the newly formed K League that year . Choi played for Pohang POSCO Atoms for four years and scored 21 goals in 55 games. He became champions for the first time in 1986 with his club. At the beginning of 1988 he moved to FC Seoul (at that time still Lucky Goldstar Hwangso ), but could not build on his performance there. In 1990 he was able to celebrate his second championship title, but only had a small share in the success. In the three seasons he scored two goals in 28 games.
In 1991 he returned to Pohang for one season. There he could no longer build on his initial performance either; in 16 missions he scored no goals. He then moved to AF Rodez in France in the second-class Ligue 2 and signed a one-year contract there. After 18 appearances and two goals, he ended his playing career there in 1993.
National team
First, Choi was used in South Korea's U-20 selection . He first took part in the Junior World Championship in 1979 , but did not get beyond the group stage. Then he won the Asian Championship in 1980 and thus qualified for the Junior World Championship in 1981 , in which he also took part. In all three competitions Choi was used in all games.
His debut for the senior team he had in August 1980 at the competition of the President's Cup . In his eleven years with the company, he scored a total of 30 goals in 97 appearances. Successes include second place at the 1980 Asian Cup , the gold medal at the 1986 Asian Games , the bronze medal four years later and participation in the 1990 World Cup in Germany .
In 1980 he was the top scorer of the Asian Cup with seven goals together with Iranian Behtash Fariba .
Career as a coach
In 1992 Pohang POSCO Atoms announced that he had been hired as an assistant coach. His contract expired at the end of 1993. Six years later he was again engaged as an assistant coach. In early 2000 he was appointed head coach. In 2004 he was runner-up with the club, they lost the championship final on penalties against Suwon Samsung Bluewings . After the season he left the club.
In 2006 third division team Ulsan Hyundai Mipo Dolphin FC signed him for three years. He led the club to the championship in 2007 and 2008 . He then spent two years as a coach at Gangwon FC before taking care of the reserve team at FC Seoul from 2012 to 2013 . In September 2016, he took over the coaching position with the Pohang Steelers, who were in danger of relegation during the season .
