Frederick Christopher "Chris" Klein (born March 14, 1979 in Hinsdale , Illinois ) is an American actor . He played his most famous role in American Pie - Like a Hot Apple Pie .

Life

Klein grew up in Hinsdale, Illinois, and moved to Omaha , Nebraska , as a teenager . While in high school he was offered his first role as an actor by director Alexander Payne , who was looking for locations for the film Election in Klein's school ( Millard West High School ) . Klein then attended Texas Christian University , where he studied performing arts.

In early 2004, Klein became engaged to his longtime girlfriend, actress Katie Holmes , but they separated in 2005.

In February 2005, Klein was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In August 2015 he married Laina Rose Thyfault. The marriage took place on a ranch in the state of Montana.
