Chris Renaud (director)
Chris Renaud (* 1966 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American comic artist , film director and storyboard artist .
Life
After graduating from Syracuse University in illustration in 1989 , he moved to New York City to pursue a career as a comic book artist. In 1993 he started at Marvel Comics . From 1996 to 1998 he drew the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series for Marvel Comics. He also worked for DC Comics and Dark Horse Comics .
In 2000 he switched to television and was involved in animation television series, for example as a draftsman for The Book of Pooh . He later designed the It's a Big Big World series .
In 2004 he applied to the computer animation studio Blue Sky Studios . He was hired as a storyboard artist and as such was involved in the films Robots and Ice Age 2: Jetzt Taut’s . When Blue Sky was looking for a story about the squirrel Scrat for a short film that would be included on the DVD for Ice Age 2: Jetzt Taut’s , he submitted one. This was selected and he, together with Mike Thurmeier , hired as a director. The six-minute film with the title No Time for Nuts was made between December 2005 and June 2006. At the 2007 Academy Awards , it was finally nominated for “ best animated short film ” and won the Annie Award in the same category.
In 2010, he and Pierre Coffin directed the animated film I - Despicable Me . Coffin and Renaud also took over the direction of its successor Ich - Einfach Desverbesserlich 2 from 2013.
