Christa Biedermann

Christa Biedermann (* 1953 in Vienna ) is an Austrian performance artist . Since 1988 she lives and works in Vienna and Berlin . Her work has been exhibited internationally, especially in Vienna and Berlin.

life and work

From 1972 Biedermann studied at the University of Applied Arts with Heribert Tasquil, Wander Bertoni , Adolf Frohner , Oswald Oberhuber , Peter Weibel and Bazon Brock . In 1982 she completed her studies with the teaching examination in art and craft education. From 1982 to 1985 she worked as an educator , completed the probationary year at a Viennese high school and took part in academic training at the women's magazine AUF and the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig . Since graduating in 1986 with Eva Choung-Fux at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the field of black and white photography on the subject of "silent images" she has been working as a freelance artist. From the mid-1980s she gave lectures and organized workshops at art colleges, cultural institutions and high schools.

Since the late 1970s, her work has included cabaret performances in the form of Super8 and 16mm films and videos . From the mid-1980s, she began producing her first mixed media works . a. experimental short films and animations . She also uses the media of painting , photography, film and installation . She has been present as an artist in Berlin since the mid-1980s. In 1991 she received a six-month scholarship at the University of Film and Television Potsdam-Babelsberg.

Christa Biedermann was responsible for the concept, curation and organization of the artistic working weeks with artists from the INTAKT gallery "Power & Sexuality" and the "Super 8 lives" festival in 1996 (Anthology Film Archives New York, Friends of the Deutsche Kinemathek / Arsenal Berlin) and " ZwieLICHT “, which was presented in 1999 in the Filmarchiv Austria .

Her works are owned by the City of Vienna, the Federal Chancellery , the Cultural Department of Lower Austria and the Museum der Moderne Salzburg , Wien Museum.
