Christa Czekay
Christa Czekay , b. Elsler (born March 20, 1944 in Waldenburg , Lower Silesia ; † June 14, 2017 ) was a German athlete who - starting for the Federal Republic of Germany - was successful as a 400-meter runner in the late 1960s / early 1970s .
She began her sporting career at TV Herrenhausen and then moved to Hannover 96 via SG Langenhagen . She started in 1968 and 1969 for MTV Peine and finally moved to VfL Wolfsburg . With a height of 1.68 m, she had a competition weight of 59 kg.
successes
- She was two German runners-up over 400 meters:
- 1968 behind Helga Henning and in front of Gisela Köpke ,
- 1969 behind Christel Frese and in front of Antje Gleichfeld .
- In 1968 she became German indoor champion over 200 meters in 24.9 s ahead of Elisabeth Kamphues and Jutta Schachler .
- She won three German relay championships:
- 1963 and 1964 over 4 times 100 meters with the team from Hannover 96 (Christa Elsler as final and second runner)
- 1971 over 3 x 800 meters with the VfL Wolfsburg team (under her better-known name Christa Czekay as the starting runner)
- As a relay runner, she won two German runner-up championships:
- 1967 over 4 x 100 meters with the Hannover 96 relay
- 1969 over 4 x 100 meters with the relay of MTV Peine
- In 1963 and 1964 she won the team championship in the pentathlon with the team from Hannover 96 .
- The year of their greatest success was 1969.
- On June 23rd in London she ran together with Inge Eckhoff , Antje Gleichfeld and Birgit Hefti over 4 times 400 meters in 3: 41.5 minutes German record. The North German quartet was around seven seconds faster than the DLV selection, whose record, which was only a week old, was 3: 48.4 minutes.
- On July 4th in Zurich she ran over 200 meters with 23.7 seconds and on July 18 in London with 53.9 seconds over 400 meters.
- On September 19 in Athens at the European Championships , she was a member of the 4-by-400-meter relay consisting of herself as the starting runner, Antje Gleichfeld, Inge Eckhoff and Christel Frese , which started a new one in 3: 33.9 min Set world record. On September 20th in the final the team was able to improve again and achieved 3: 32.7 minutes. This time meant winning the bronze medal behind Great Britain and France and a new German record.
- At the European Indoor Championships in Sofia in 1971 , she won the silver medal behind the USSR in 3: 39.6 minutes as the final runner of the relay over 4 times 2 rounds (team: Gisela Ahlemeyer , Gisela Ellenberger , Anette Rückes and Christa Czekay) in 3: 39.6 minutes (gold in 3: 36.6 min (WR)) and ahead of Bulgaria (bronze in 3: 47.9 min)
