Christian Friedrich August von Saher (born August 12, 1718 in Auglitz, † March 13, 1783 in Kyritz ) was a Prussian major general , chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 2 and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

He comes from the Saher von Weißenstein family.

Military career

Saher studied at the Schulpforte monastery and later in Leipzig . In 1735 he entered the Saxon service, took part in the campaigns in Poland and Hungary and fought in the battles near Panczowa (July 30, 1739) and the Timok.

In 1741 he switched to Prussian services with General Ernst Christoph von Nassau . Saher came to the "Platen" dragoon regiment and rose to major there by 1762 . In 1773 he became lieutenant colonel and on August 30, 1780 colonel . In 1782 he became chief of the cuirassier regiment "Weyherr" and at the same time major general. In his Prussian days he took part in the sieges of Neisse, Prague and Kosel and fought in the battles near Hohenfriedberg , Breslau , Leuthen , Kunersdorf and Freiberg as well as Meissen and Maxen. In 1759 after the fighting at Meuro, he received the order Pour le Mérite. He was wounded in the abdomen during the fighting in Freiberg, but he also received a commendation from Prince Heinrich and the King.

He died on March 13, 1783 in Kyritz.

family

Saher married Karoline Spott called Tirpick from Neuhof in Bohemia in 1742. Her father was chief stableman with Prince Esterházy . The couple had 18 children, of whom only four were still alive in 1763.
