Bellermann, son of the theologian and archaeologist Johann Joachim Bellermann and brother of Johann Friedrich Bellermann , studied theology in Berlin and Göttingen , interrupted by a volunteer assignment in the Lützow Freikorps during the Wars of Liberation . In Berlin he was a member of the Corps Marchia . In 1816 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. After an interim activity as a teacher at the Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster in Berlin, he worked from 1818 to 1825 as a pastor of the German Protestant community in Lisbon , from 1827 as a preacher for the Prussian embassy and the Franco-German Protestant community in Naples . In 1835 he was appointed pastor at the newly built St. Pauls Church in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen . He retired in 1858 and moved to his daughter in Bonn, where he died on March 24, 1863.

Bellermann was involved in the associations in which the representatives of church liberalism among the Berlin pastors were more likely to organize, namely the Gustav Adolf Association and the Association for Protestant Church Fellowship (also known as the Union Association). In addition, he emerged through literature and church history publications. Bellermannstrasse in the Mitte district of Berlin (near where he has worked for many years) is named after him.
