Christian Lépine (born September 18, 1951 in Montréal ) is Archbishop of Montréal .

Life

Christian Lépine first studied at the Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and later mechanical engineering at the École polytechnique de Montréal . After his theological training at the University of Montreal , he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Montréal on September 7, 1983 . From 1986 to 1989 he completed a doctorate in philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . After pastoral work, he became the personal secretary of Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte in 1996 . In 1998 he moved to the State Secretariat of the Vatican and later to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments . In 2000 he became rector of the diocesan seminary in Montreal and changed from 2006 to 2012 as pastor in pastoral care. For over twenty years he taught philosophy and theology at the Grand Séminaire de Montréal .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 11, 2011 auxiliary bishop in Montréal and titular bishop of Zabi . The Archbishop of Montréal, Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte , ordained him episcopal on September 10th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Lionel Gendron PSS , Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil , and André Gazaille , Bishop of Nicolet .

On March 20, 2012, the Pope appointed him Archbishop of Montréal. On April 27 of the same year he was officially introduced to his office there.

He has been Grand Prior of the Canada-Montreal Lieutenancy of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem since 2015 .
