Louis Dicaire (born August 29, 1946 in Montréal ; † July 19, 2020 there ) was a Canadian Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Saint-Jean-Longueuil .

Life

Louis Dicaire studied at the Collège Grasset, the Collège Saint-Jean-Vianney and the Grand Séminaire de Montréal as well as at the Université de Sherbrooke . He completed dogmatic studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University and canonical studies at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo . He received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Montréal on January 20, 1974 . He was initially active in pastoral care. In 1977 he was appointed diocesan chaplain of the Boy Scouts in Montréal and in 1979 he was appointed vice pastor in four parishes. In 1985 he was appointed Deputy Director of the Liturgical Pastoral Service of the Archdiocese of Montréal and Vicar at Saint-Léon de Westmount in Westmount . From 1990 to 1996 he was secretary to Jean-Claude Turcotte , Archbishop of Montreal, and then Episcopal Vicar of the Eastern Pastoral Region of the Archdiocese of Montreal.

On 18 February 1999 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Diocese of Thizica and auxiliary bishop in Montreal. The Archbishop of Montreal, Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte , donated to him on March 25 of that year in the Basilica of Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral , the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Montréal, André Rivest and Jude Saint-Antoine . In 2001 he took over the office of vicar general for one year. He was also rector of the Besilika Marie-Reine-du-Monde de Montréal. On June 19, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Saint-Jean-Longueuil.

From 2011 to 2015 he was Grand Prior of the Canada-Montreal Lieutenancy of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

Louis Dicaire died at the age of 73 in the Santa Cabrini Hospital in Montréal.
