Training and work

Christian Labonte attended the humanistic grammar school. From 1917 to 1919 he interrupted his schooling and did military service and was taken prisoner of war. After the First World War, he continued his school education and, after graduating from high school in 1920, did an agricultural apprenticeship at Johannisberg Castle . From 1922 to 1924 he studied agriculture in Bonn-Poppelsdorf. In Bonn, he was a member of the fraternity K.D.St.V. Ascania Bonn in the CV . On September 1, 1924, he became operations manager at Schloss Johannisberg. He was to fulfill this function until December 31, 1967 and to make great contributions to viticulture.

The company was in poor economic shape in the early 1920s. Christian Labonte achieved an economic recovery of the winery by concentrating on the production of quality wines. In addition to working in the winery, he was also active in the associations. He was the founder of the working group of Rheingau vineyard administrators and, after the war, co-founder of the Rheingau and the German Winegrowing Association. For many years he was a member of the viticulture committee of the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry.

politics

Christian Labonte was a member of the Stahlhelm, Association of Frontline Soldiers . His transfer to the Sturmabteilung in 1934 probably also explains Labontes SA membership.

Due to the regional reform in Hesse in 1972, the position of mayor in Johannisberg was vacant in 1971. In his place, Christian Labonte, as state commissioner, managed the integration into Geisenheim.

At the state political level, Labonte was a member of the Hessian state parliament from December 1, 1954 to November 30, 1958 .
