Christian Friedrich Marth (born October 8, 1840 in Neustadt in Holstein ; † February 21, 1914 in Lübeck ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and chief pastor at St. Marien in Lübeck.

Life

Marth was born the son of a teacher . After studying theology, Marth became pastor at St. Michaelis in Lütjenburg .

When Ludwig Trummer was appointed chief pastor of the parish of St. Petri in Lübeck , Marth became the third clergyman in the St. Marien parish in September 1880 .

As the successor to the main pastor of St. Jakobi , who retired on January 1, 1891 , Gustav Hofmeier , his board proposed the pastors Lindenberg ( Nusse ), Marth and Bernhard ( St. Lorenz ). On November 20th, Lindenberg was chosen by them.

For his 25th anniversary in office on November 5, 1905, his congregation had Fritz Behn make a relief of Marth from ore and hung it in the central nave of the Marienkirche as a sign of their great appreciation .

After the Senior Senior Pastor Leopold Friedrich Ranke in pension went, Marth was appointed senior pastor on October 17, 1909th As such, on November 16, 1909, he buried the coffin of Walther Brecht , director of the Lübeck-Büchener railway company , coming from Arosa , and in 1911 he blessed the body of the architect Karl von Großheim , who had died there, from Berlin , before he made his urn after the Buried cremation in the Burgtorfriedhof .

Marth belonged to the high school board and was confirmed there several times. He was also a board member of the Fatherland Women's Association of the Red Cross .

As his book, published two years before his death, shows, his free time was devoted to studying philosophy . He was known for his popular philosophical lectures held annually in the Great Hall of the Society for the Promotion of Charitable Activities .

After Marth had undergone an appendectomy a few days earlier , he felt so strengthened that he intended to resume his official duties on the following Monday with the lessons of the confirmands . He had the hospital drive him to his home. On the threshold of his flower-decorated apartment, he lost consciousness due to a fit of weakness and died shortly afterwards of cardiac paralysis .

Marth had a daughter.
