Christian Moser (born July 18, 1966 in Munich ; † August 13, 2013 there ) was a German author , illustrator and comic artist .

Life

The artist published his first cartoons and comics in the Münchner Stadtzeitung at the age of 18 . In 1992 he founded the legendary comic strip with a group of young cartoonists, with which he caused a sensation as editor-in-chief of the comic magazine of the same name for over four years.

He worked as a freelance illustrator for publishers, institutions and companies. He and colleagues regularly developed comic series for magazines such as Tempo , Prinz and Focus .

The “Little Heads” represent a central facet of his extensive artistic oeuvre - a series of small-format character studies, alternating between portrait and caricature. At the same time, countless, partly unfinished, projects such as B. the cycle hell or the lexical art.

From 1998 he also published his own books regularly. In these, Christian Moser combined scientific impetus with accurate irony. This can be seen in his humorous biographies about Sigmund Freud and Goethe as well as in his opus Magnum, the book series about the monsters of everyday life . As early as January 2000, the first entries were made in Christian Moser's sketchbooks. Since then he has dealt intensively with the investigation and lexical processing of human misconduct. In collaboration with co-author Carolin Sonner, four books and an anniversary anthology about the monsters of everyday life were created . A number of small-format themed books were in preparation.

The monsters of everyday life also appeared in the form of calendars, postcards, T-shirts and games. In addition, limited screen prints were created that were implemented with the Nuremberg art printer Rainer Michely .

The extremely versatile artist was also regularly seen on sold-out stages (Lustspielhaus, Lach- und Schießgesellschaft, Nürnberger Burgtheater), where he brought his works to life in scenic readings from 2002 onwards. At the side of Viennese cabaret artist Severin Groebner with the program for the book series Monster des Everyday and joint appearances as a music duo under the name “Café Melanie”. Christian Moser toured Germany with his colleagues Ralph Ruthe and Flix in 2012 with the program “Girls, Monsters, Misfortunes - three cartoonists, one reading”. Most recently he delighted with the autobiographical solo program “I am not to blame”.

On August 13, 2013, Christian Moser suffered a fatal heart attack in his Munich apartment at the age of 47.

In memory of this extraordinary artist, both the special exhibition in the Valentin-Karlstadt-Musäum and the memorial exhibition at the international comic salon Erlangen 2014 showed a selection of his extensive work.

His last book "Little monsters - horror lives in the nursery" was published posthumously in May 2014.
