Christian Heribert Riesbeck CC (born February 7, 1970 in Montreal ) is a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Saint John, New Brunswick .

Life

Riesbeck's father, Heribert, emigrated to Canada from the Hessian village of Kassel as a young man . Christian Riesbeck entered the seminary in Toronto and received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Ottawa on October 12, 1996 from Archbishop Marcel André Gervais . In 2003 he was incardinated in the recently recognized priestly community of the Companions of the Cross (CC) .

He graduated from Saint Paul University in Ottawa with a degree in canon law . He was pastor of the Queen of Peace Congregation in Houston , Texas for seven years and since 2010 Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Ottawa.

On January 7, 2014 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Tipasa in Numidia and Auxiliary Bishop in Ottawa . He received his episcopal ordination on March 19 of the same year by the Archbishop of Ottawa, Terrence Thomas Prendergast SJ . Co- consecrators were old archbishop Marcel André Gervais and the archbishop of Gatineau , Paul-André Durocher .

On October 15, 2019, Francis appointed him Bishop of Saint John, New Brunswick. The inauguration took place on December 9th of the same year.
