Christine Freitag (born December 4, 1964 ) is a German educational scientist and professor for historical-systematic and comparative educational science at the University of Paderborn .

Career

From 1985 she studied English and Catholic religion at the universities of Münster and Osnabrück for teaching at grammar schools. From 1987 to 1988 she worked as a teaching assistant and lecturer in Derby (England) and then continued her studies at the University of Osnabrück. In the interdisciplinary working group “International Research in Teacher Education”, from 1990 onwards, she dealt with questions of school development and teacher training in various countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America and participated in various research and development projects on this topic.

In 1994 she received her doctorate from the University of Osnabrück with a dissertation on schools and educational aid in the conceptions of Catholic mission societies , supervised by Konrad Hartong . Using the example of the educational conceptions and educational practice of Catholic mission societies , she develops categories for a theory of educational assistance with the help of an interdisciplinary approach of historical and intercultural-comparative educational research.

She passed the second state examination in 1997. This was followed by activities as a research assistant and senior assistant at the University of Osnabrück, until in 2007 she was appointed to a professorship with a focus on pedagogy and didactics at the secondary level at the University of Bremen . In 2004 she received her habilitation with the writing Mediation - A Central, but Neglected Category of Professional Action in International Cooperation . She researched and taught in Bremen for three semesters before accepting a position at the University of Paderborn in the 2008/09 winter semester.

Research priorities

Christine Freitag established herself in the field of international comparative school and educational research as well as educational peace and conflict research . Here she is engaged in a. as part of an interdisciplinary research project on the importance of religion in school contexts with the connection between education and religion and the resulting potential for conflict. Other focal points are school development processes in a regional context against the background of global trends, professional and professionalization research, the connection between education and human rights as well as evaluation research and curriculum development for the training of specialists for civil peace service .

Teaching

The content and recurring focus of her courses are above all the basics of upbringing and education, colonial and missionary education, upbringing and educational history (also: school history / history of the grammar school), education and upbringing in international comparison and conflicts in school. Christine Friday's seminars and lectures are primarily to be found in the teacher training programs , but also in the two-subject Bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Paderborn .

Projects and functions

She is involved in the development of an international and interdisciplinary research network on human rights conflicts and led an EU project to develop and evaluate multi-professional training measures for the prevention of domestic violence . Furthermore, she established and leads the voluntary mentoring program " Balu und Du " at the University of Paderborn , which supports children of primary school age, as well as the educational research workshop founded in the 2009 summer semester.

Christine Freitag is a member of the steering group of the Northern Association of School Accompanying Research and a board member of the Intercultural and International Comparative Educational Science section of the DGfE . At the University of Paderborn she was also the chair of the doctoral committee.
