Christoph Althofer (born November 9, 1606 in Hersbruck ; † May 11, 1660 in Kulmbach ) was a Lutheran theologian .

Life

Christoph Althofer studied in Altdorf near Nuremberg , Wittenberg , Leipzig and Jena , where he joined the theological direction of the so-called "Johannine triad" around Johann Gerhard , Johannes Major and Johann Himmel . As a “real Gerhardian” he was appointed to a theological professorship and diaconate in Altdorf in 1629. He resigned his ministry in 1637 because of conscience about the abuses of Lutheran confession .

In 1639 he acquired his theological doctorate in Jena and in 1644 went to Kulmbach as a Brandenburg church councilor and general superintendent . Here he was particularly committed to the school system. To this end, he asked the margrave to use half of the income from Heilsbronn Monastery to improve the schools in Kulmbach and Heilsbronn. He encouraged both teachers and students to be diligent.
