Christoph Asmuth

Christoph Asmuth (born August 20, 1962 in Bochum ) is a German philosopher .

Life

Asmuth studied philosophy , German language and literature , pedagogy and history at the Ruhr University Bochum , especially with Kurt Flasch and Burkhard Mojsisch, and completed his studies with a master's degree in philosophy. In 1995 he was also at the Ruhr University Bochum with Burkhard Mojsisch with the work “The understanding of the incomprehensible. Philosophy and Religion with Johann Gottlieb Fichte ”. In 1998 he was employed as a university assistant in the Philosophy Department of the Technical University of Berlin . In 2003 Asmuth completed his habilitation with the thesis “Interpretation - Transformation. The Plato picture in Fichte, Schelling, Hegel, Schleiermacher and Schopenhauer and the legitimation problem of the history of philosophy ”at the Technical University of Berlin. Asmuth has been an adjunct professor at the Technical University of Berlin since 2009 , where he headed the BMBF research projects "Translating Doping - Doping Translate" and "ANTHROPOFAKTE". Asmuth has held the chair for philosophy at the Augustana University in Neuendettelsau since 2020 .

Research focus

The systematic focus Asmuths are in the areas: Philosophy of Science , Philosophy of Technology , German idealism , transcendental philosophy , philosophy of language , epistemology , philosophy of religion , philosophy and theology , practical philosophy , philosophy of science , theory of image and mind-body problem. He works on ancient authors, especially Plato , Plotinus , Augustine on medieval authors, Anselm von Canterbury , Meister Eckhart , Nikolaus von Kues as well as on various authors of modern times and modern times. One focus is on Immanuel Kant , Johann Gottlieb Fichte , Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel . In his 2011 monograph on the concept of images under the title “Images about images, images without images. A New Theory of Imagery ”, Asmuth undertakes an expansion of basic transcendental philosophical considerations into other and new problems. He also develops such a one in relation to fundamental questions of the philosophy of the body, movement, sport and feelings and affects.
