The CG Group AG is a real estate development company based in Berlin , with around 900 employees. The company is 75 percent owned by Consus Real Estate .

history

The CG Group was founded by Christoph Gröner, for whom the initials CG stand. He studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and founded his first company in Karlsruhe in 1990 . In 1995 he came to Leipzig , which had and has a large number of listed old buildings . The CG Group has also been involved in project development for new buildings since 2005. The company has been based in Berlin since 2010. In 2015 the company went public and generated sales of 117 million euros. There are branches in Leipzig, Dresden , Frankfurt am Main , Cologne , Hamburg , Düsseldorf , Stuttgart and Munich . The focus is on building rental apartments for institutional investors and the aim is to use Building Information Modeling (BIM) to build cost-effectively and in series. In March 2020, CG Gruppe AG announced that it had renamed itself Consus RE AG. Christoph Gröner, previously CEO of CG Gruppe AG, switched to the Supervisory Board.

Litigation before the Leipzig District Court

From December 2018, Christoph Gröner had to answer before the Leipzig District Court . The public prosecutor's office accused him in three indictments of having committed tax evasion in several cases a few years ago . The tax authorities “caused total damage in the lower six-digit range due to incorrect or incomplete information,” reported the Leipziger Volkszeitung . A fourth indictment concerned allegations of bankruptcy delay . Christoph Gröner stated that all allegations were false. Among other things, Gröner's lawyers stated that the said bankruptcy did not actually exist.

On February 21, 2019, the district court decided after eight days of negotiations to suspend the process. The court obliged Gröner to pay a six-digit amount of money. If the CG founder pays the amount within six months, the proceedings will be permanently discontinued.

Projects

In Dresden, the company is reconstructing the Palais Hoym a few meters from the Frauenkirche and plans to build a Quartier Hoym by 2021 and invest around 144 million euros.

In Berlin, the company is building, among other things, at the Steglitz roundabout .

In 2015, the listed building of the former Oberpostdirektion in Westend was acquired in Frankfurt in order to build apartments.

In Fellbach , the shell of the SLT 107 Schwabenlandtower (formerly Gewa-Tower), which had largely been completed, was acquired at the end of September 2018 , and the CG Group will convert the existing luxury apartments into rental apartments there.

The Alte Postbahnhof in Leipzig was acquired in 2014 .

Controversy about the construction project in Berlin-Kreuzberg

The CG Group planned to convert the high-rise building of the former post office on Halleschen Ufer in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district . A residential tower was to be created from the 23-storey office tower, supplemented by commercial space (“XBerg Tower”). The high-rise is part of an area on which offices and commercial space are also to be built.

Florian Schmidt (Greens), City Councilor for Construction in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, rejected the plans, "because expensive and many small apartments were to be built in the previously commercially used tower and high rents or sales prices would have further accelerated the gentrification of Kreuzberg," as the Tagesspiegel wrote . Gröner explained to this dispute: The aim of the CG group was "to create cheap living space for all classes of the population." In January 2019 it became known that the CG had negotiated a compromise with the district. This stipulates that the company will sell shares in the land to the state-owned housing company DEGEWO . This wants to build 323 apartments on the site. No apartments are to be built in the tower; in future it will be used as an office building again.

Sponsorship

The company is one of the sponsors of the Leipzig first division club RB Leipzig and from the 2019/20 season also one of the sponsors of the Karlsruhe second division club Karlsruher SC . According to media reports, the CG Group intends to position itself as the main sponsor of the KSC by 2021 at the latest.
