Christoph Knauder (born April 7, 1982 in Wolfsberg ) is an Austrian natural track luge . Together with his brother Thomas he forms a two-seater couple. So far they have won the overall rankings in the Intercontinental Cup three times, achieved fifth place as the best result in World Cup races and twice achieved sixth place at World and European Championships . In 2008 they became Austrian champions in doubles. In the Intercontinental Cup, Christoph Knauder also starts in a single seater.

Career

At international junior championships, Christoph Knauder also competed in the single-seater, but achieved the best results together with his brother Thomas in the double-seater. They achieved two fifth places at the Junior European Championships in 2000 and 2001 and one sixth place at the Junior World Championships in 2002 . In 2002 the brothers also took part in the European Championship in Frantschach in their near home. They took sixth place out of ten double-seater pairs.

In the next few years Christoph Knauder started in the Intercontinental Cup in both single and double. He achieved the better results again together with his brother in the doubles and in the 2005/2006 season they won the doubles overall ranking with two victories and another two podium places. They were also able to qualify for a European championship for the second time , but only achieved tenth place in Umhausen .

In winter 2007/2008 they won the doubles overall ranking in the Intercontinental Cup for the second time and became Austrian champions in doubles. This brought them back to the Austrian squad for the 2008 European Championship in Olang , where they finished ninth. A week after the EM, they contested their first two World Cup races in Železniki . They finished the first race in sixth position and in the second they finished fifth as the best Austrian couple. In the overall ranking of the 2007/2008 season , this meant 14th place.

As the overall winner of the IC Cup last year, the Knauder brothers also had a fixed starting place in the first World Cup race of the 2008/2009 season , but this time they only achieved eighth place. In the rest of the season, she was used only once in the World Cup, finished eighth and finished twelfth overall, the penultimate place in the final ranking. Nevertheless, they were able to qualify for the 2009 World Championships in Moos in Passeier , where they came in sixth as the second best Austrian.

In the 2009/2010 season, Christoph and Thomas Knauder did not contest any World Cup races. They only started in the Intercontinental Cup and won the overall standings there for the third time. For the 2010 European Championships in St. Sebastian they did not manage to qualify within the team against the Thomas Kammerlander / Christoph Regensburger doubles . In the 2010/2011 season Thomas and Christoph Knauder again took part in a World Cup race. On January 16, they took eighth place in Gsies . Two weeks later they also took part in the 2011 World Championships in Umhausen , where they also finished eighth. In the Intercontinental Cup this winter, they achieved second place overall with two victories. In the 2011/2012 season, the Knauder brothers started again only in the Intercontinental Cup. With three podium places, they achieved third place in the overall standings.
