Christoph Seidl (born 1987 in Zwettl ) is an Austrian opera singer with a bass voice .

life and work

Seidl grew up in Weitra , where he also received his first singing lessons. From 2008 he studied with Ralf Döring at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and graduated with honors in 2013. He received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association and attended master classes with Helmut Deutsch , Thomas Hampson and Angelika Kirchschlager . As a concert singer he was heard in several cities in Germany and Austria, for example in Haydn's Nicolaimesse , Mozart's Coronation Mass or Schubert's G major Mass .

He has made guest appearances at the Gmunden Theater and in Weitra with Adolf Müller's Die Schwarze Frau , at the Summer Dream Festival on Semmering as Masetto and Commendatore in Don Giovanni , at the ETA Hoffmann Theater in Bamberg as Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro and at the Zurich Opera House in Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk , conducted here by Teodor Currentzis . Seidl also appeared in several roles at the Schönbrunn Palace Theater .

In 2013 he was a member of the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival . There he played Osmin in The Abduction from the Seraglio (in a version for children) and sang one of the six Flemish deputies in Peter Stein's Don Carlos production (with Antonio Pappano at the podium) in the Großer Festspielhaus . In the 2013/14 season he was a member of the International Opera Studio Zurich and took on minor roles in Verdi , Wagner and Strauss operas at the Zurich Opera House.

Since September 2014 Seidl has been involved in the Young Ensemble of the Theater an der Wien for two seasons . In the main house he takes on a number of smaller roles, in the Dependance Wiener Kammeroper leading roles, such as Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky's Eugen Onegin or the bass parts in Handel's Rinaldo , Gassmann's Gli Uccellatori , Ravel's Spanish Hour or Poulenc's Breasts of Tiresias .
